God's Will vs. Your Feelings

Trusting God in the Valley of Decision

Have you ever found yourself standing between what you feel and what God is saying?

Most believers have.

There are seasons in life when emotions are loud, circumstances are uncertain, and decisions feel overwhelming. During a recent Wednesday Night FIRE Bible Study, Pastor Kelker delivered a powerful reminder that many of us needed to hear:

God has an answer for you.

The challenge is that His answer may not always align with your feelings.

The Valley of Decision

Before teaching from Ephesians Chapter 1, Pastor Kelker spoke prophetically about the atmosphere in the room. He shared that many people find themselves in a valley of decision—a place where important choices must be made and uncertainty creates anxiety.

Yet God reminded us of something powerful:

He is not obligated to answer our feelings. He responds according to His will. 

That truth can be difficult to receive because we naturally want God to confirm what we already desire. However, spiritual maturity requires trusting God's wisdom above our emotions.

Chosen Before the Foundation of the World

One of the central themes of the message came from Ephesians 1.

Pastor Kelker reminded the congregation that God's plan for our lives did not begin when we were born. It did not begin when we accepted Christ. It did not begin when we discovered our purpose.

It began before the foundation of the world.

Before you experienced your first victory.

Before your first heartbreak.

Before your first failure.

Before your first success.

God already knew you.

He already had a purpose for you.

He already had a plan.

This understanding changes how we view life's challenges. What feels like an interruption to us may actually be part of God's preparation process.

The Pressure Has a Purpose

Many believers assume that hardship means God has abandoned them.

Scripture teaches the opposite.

Throughout the Bible, God used difficult seasons to prepare His people for greater assignments.

Joseph endured betrayal before leadership.

David faced giants before kingship.

Paul experienced suffering before ministry impact.

The message reminded us that pressure is often evidence that God is working something greater within us. What we call inconvenience, God may call preparation.

The trial is not meant to destroy you.

The trial is meant to develop you.

Your Identity Is Not Based on Your Circumstances

Pastor Kelker emphasized that our identity comes from who God says we are, not what we are currently experiencing.

Many people define themselves by:

• Their mistakes

• Their failures

• Their struggles

• Their current situation

God defines us differently.

Through Christ, we are:

• Chosen

• Called

• Redeemed

• Accepted

• Loved

• Sealed by the Holy Spirit

The enemy wants us to focus on our circumstances.

God wants us to focus on our identity.

Sealed by the Holy Spirit

One of the most encouraging moments of the lesson centered on Ephesians 1:13-14, where believers are described as being sealed by the Holy Spirit.

A seal represents ownership, protection, and authenticity.

In other words:

God knows who belongs to Him.

God protects what belongs to Him.

God finishes what He starts.

Even when life feels uncertain, God's seal remains intact.

You may feel broken.

You may feel discouraged.

You may feel forgotten.

But feelings do not change God's promises.

God's Will Is Better Than Our Feelings

The greatest takeaway from the evening was simple:

Feelings change. God's will does not.

There will be moments when emotions tell us to quit.

God says continue.

There will be moments when fear tells us to stop.

God says move forward.

There will be moments when circumstances seem impossible.

God says trust Me anyway.

Faith is not following your feelings.

Faith is trusting God when your feelings want to lead you somewhere else.

Final Thought

If you find yourself in a valley of decision today, remember this:

God already knows the outcome.

He already knows the path.

He already knows the purpose.

Trust His will even when you do not fully understand it.

Because God's answer may not always be what you wanted—

but it will always be what you need.
